Making The Call is committed to ensuring that women and gender-diverse people have an equal share of voice in sports media.

Through targeted programs and initiatives with a proven track record, we’re helping shape a more inclusive industry, one where our graduates are now working across all areas of sports media, from grassroots coverage to elite competitions.

Founded in 2020 by sisters Emma Race and Lucy Race, Making The Call is both a disruptor and a driving force behind the scenes. We’re breaking down barriers and building pathways for the next generation of diverse voices in sport.

Emma Race

Emma’s voice in Australian sport and media is passionate and visionary. Her 25 years of experience in media production, teamed with her recognition in the AFL list of most influential people, powers her innovative leadership in the space of sports media.

She co-founded the award-winning podcast The Outer Sanctum, is a sought-after speaker and mentor, and as an advocate continues to shape the conversation on gender and equality in sport.

Lucy Race

Lucy is an award-winning broadcaster and advocate for gender equality, using sport and media to amplify diverse voices and drive change for women and the LGBTQIA+ community.

As co-founder of The Outer Sanctum and an experienced educator and communicator, she combines passion and expertise to create impact through media and training.

I participated in Making the Call in the very first intake, which feels like forever ago but it has been instrumental in propelling me from a part-time football commentator to someone who is now able to work full-time in sports media and broadcasting.
